Saratoga Shakespeare Company Performs THIS WEEK! Bring the Family to Congress Park!

Saratoga Shakespeare Company performances are one of my absolute favorite family things to do during the summer in Saratoga. I’m a bit of a Shakespeare nerd, and being able to see these amazing productions, free of charge, while sitting in our beautiful Congress Park is seriously a not to miss experience. This summer they have chosen The Merry Wives of Windsor as their production and shows run from July 16th – July 28th, Tuesday-Saturday at 6:30 with preshow entertainment at 6pm and Sundays at 3pm with preshow at 2:30pm.

In the Merry Wives of Windsor, Shakespeare’s jolly romp featuring the bombastic rascal, Falstaff, Shakespeare skewers both the rising middle class and the decadent nobility in his most farcical English comedy. Imagining that Mistress Ford and Mistress Page have each fallen for him, the fat knight Sir John Falstaff decides to seduce them both, as much for their husbands’ money as for their personal charms. Wise to the old rogue’s tricks, the women turn the tables on him with a series of humiliating assignations and a very damp, extremely smelly laundry basket.

Always on the cutting edge of concept, this year the Saratoga Shakespeare company will be using a Prohibition Saratoga inspired theme for the costumes and sets in their production of Merry Wives in conjunction with Saratoga 150 Festival celebrating 150 years of the Saratoga Race Course. How cool is that?!

So mark your calendars and be sure to catch a performance this week. Either as a special date night or a family night you can bring a picnic, spread a blanket on the ground or bring some chairs and enjoy the show, it really is a magical Saratoga Springs experience.
